Serving Size: 4 servings
1 lb (450 g) minced lean beef or lamb
1 tablespoon polyunsaturated oil eg sunflower oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic (optional)
1/2 oz (25 g) flour
1/2 pint (300 ml) water
ground black pepper
1/2 tin chopped tomatoes (200 g) drained
2 teaspoons basil (dried/fresh)
1.In a large saucepan, heat the oil and fry the onion until it turns golden.
2.Add in the mince and stir frequently. Fry briskly and drain the fat
3. Take the pan off the heat. Add the flour and half the water, drained tomatoes and the herbs.
4. Cover and simmer for about an hour or until the mince is tender.
5. As the mince thickens add the rest of the liquid.
